Biography

Born: May 19, 1928 - Vienna, Austria

The Austrian soprano, Antonia Fahberg, studied at the Vienna Academy.

Antonia Fahberg debuted at the Landestheater Innsbruck in 1950. She joined the Bavarian State Opera in Munich in 1952, where she subsequently became a member of the ensembleand formed there with great success for over 25 years. In 1963 and 1964, she sang numerous solo parts in concert performances at the Salzburger Festspiele. Fahberg frequently sang at the Munich Opernfestspiele as well as in German TV shows. She was a guest to the opera houses of Vienna, Hamburg, Amsterdam and Brussels.

Antonia Fahberg's stage repertoire included numerous lyric and juvenile-dramatic soprano roles. She was internationally acclaimed as a concert and oratorio singer, especially for her intepretations of J.S. Bach’s works.

Antonia Fahberg's recordings include J.S. Bach's Matthäus-Passion (BWV 244) (DG), Bach Cantatas (DG), Georg Frideric Handel's Alexander Baius (Da Capo), and Monteverdi's Il ritorno d'Ulisse in patria and L'incoronazione di Poppea (both on Vox).
