Fiori Musicali

Voice/Instrument:

Biography

Founded by Penelope Rapson in 1983, Fiori are a principal provider and promoter of high quality professional classical music, offering great programmes and world class artists in interesting venues.

A highlight this summer was Latin Grammy award-winning Spanish guitarist José María Gallardo de Rey, "the guitarist of his generation"(Classical Guitar) who made a unique visit to play Rodrigo's Concierto de Aranjuez with us at The Stables, Milton Keynes.

Familiar faces with Fiori this season include recorder virtuoso Pamela Thorby, brilliant violinist Kerstin Linder-Dewan and of course no season would be complete without the sublime singing of distinguished countertenor James Bowman. Full details of our concerts with these artists are listed on our Concerts page, or Contact us for copy of our season brochure.

Fiori's repertoire stretches from late renaissance to early romantic and beyond, from the glories of the late 16th century and Monteverdi's famous Vespers of 1610 to the colourful world of Latin America, but always capturing something of how the music first sounded. We also champion music from England's renaissance and baroque, with a particular penchant for music from the English choral tradition.

Among many concerts a highlight was our trip to France last September with soprano Grace Davidson for the St Loup de Naud Festival near Paris. Fiori appear in many formats – as a choir, as a small chamber ensemble and as a chamber orchestra, and our discography spans Purcell, Vivaldi, Bach, Zelenka and much else besides.

“Impassioned pulsing orchestral writing…. and dramatically charged choral tension combine to compelling effect…..this disc will amply reward those eager to hear more.” (David Vickers, Gramophone Magazine)

Fiori Musicali’s 2009/10 series of concerts is supported by Northamptonshire County Council and South Northamptonshire Council in partnership with Orchestras Live, through the generosity of members of our Silver Jubilee Club, and by the Friends of Fiori Musicali.
